What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is approaching soon, marking one of the most significant seasons for our Muslim friends and neighbors around the world. There are many ways Christians can support the Muslim community throughout this unique season. Firstly, they can better understand some of the common practices and traditions associated with this celebration.

What is Ramadan?
Ramadan is the Muslim holy month that commemorates the angel Gabriel giving the first verses of the Qur’an to Muhammad. From sunset on February 17 to sunset on March 19, Muslims globally observe this season by emphasizing fasting, prayer, reading the Qur’an, and gathering with family.

This season offers meaningful opportunities to build bridges and deepen relationships:

  • Offer a greeting. Saying “Ramadan Kareem” (meaning “Generous Ramadan”) is a simple way to show respect for their customs.

  • Many Muslims prioritize charity during Ramadan. Ask if you can volunteer alongside them.

  • Fasting all day is challenging. Spending time together can be deeply encouraging.

  • Honor their dedication and commitment – A month of fasting takes discipline!

How to Pray This Ramadan

  • For our Muslim neighbors:
Ask God to make His love known through the words and actions of Christians. Pray for encouragement during this holy season and for genuine Christian–Muslim relationships to grow.

  • For Discovery Groups:
Pray these groups remain safe, welcoming spaces where Muslims can encounter Jesus.

  • For open doors:
Ask God to use Ramadan to spark meaningful conversations and new opportunities.

  • For our team:
Pray for wisdom, faithfulness, and boldness as they point people to Jesus.
